How to find the perfect Atelier in Berlin.

Berlin is a city bursting with creativity, but that also means studio spaces are in high demand, and competition for affordable, artist-friendly spaces is fierce.

While the Berlin Sculpture Atelier—the art space I founded in 2022—is more than just a physical location, I still need a studio that’s spacious enough to create my sculptures and host art classes, both my own and those led by our other instructors. At the same time, privacy is essential. With life models often posing nude and long hours of deep concentration, a secluded and focused environment is a must.

Since I spend most of my time in the studio, it has to be more than just functional. It needs to be inviting, inspiring, and aesthetically pleasing—a space where creativity can truly thrive.

Here is a list of helpful sites to find your own art studio:

Finding the right studio space comes down to balancing three key factors: size, location and budget. If you're an artist in Berlin, your monthly budget will largely determine what’s possible. Larger spaces for teaching or working on big pieces naturally come at a higher cost, so it’s essential to consider how you’ll sustain those expenses. For me, that meant ensuring my teaching and commissions could reliably support the move. Also, keep in mind that spaces within the Berlin Ring tend to have a higher price per square meter than those outside it.

For artists on the studio hunt, there are several great resources to explore. The BBK Berlin website offers a variety of studio listings, including those available on the free market and state-funded options that require an application. Platforms like Kleinanzeigen can also be invaluable. It’s a great place to find shared spaces, which not only make renting more affordable but also create opportunities to connect with other artists and build a sense of community. However, for more introverted individuals like myself, shared spaces can feel limiting. I knew I needed my own atelier—a place where I could fully immerse myself in my work without interruptions.

After a long search, a friend of mine finally found a new studio where I’ll be moving in February. It’s exciting to start fresh, and I’ll share more details soon. For now, I hope my journey encourages other artists to keep searching for their ideal space. With persistence and creativity, it’s possible to find a place that fits both your art and your life. So if you're looking for a new studio, stay connected—sometimes, the perfect space comes from an unexpected connection.

One of my first shared art studios back in Florence, Italy

When I decided to move from Italy to Germany, I knew it wouldn’t be easy to find an affordable atelier space that met all my needs.

Berlin is truly unique in the way it fosters creativity. The city’s rich history, vibrant art scene, and diverse community of artists make it a hub for innovation while still deeply valuing traditional art forms. As someone passionate about Bildhauerei—as it’s called in Germany—I’ve been inspired by Berlin’s seamless blend of old and new. It’s a city where you can experiment with sculpting in clay, explore Aktzeichnen (life drawing), or dive deep into classical techniques, all while staying connected to a contemporary art world that thrives on pushing boundaries.

When designing my new atelier, I knew I wanted to reflect these Berlin elements in the space. It’s not just a place for me to create but also a venue for Kunst-Workshops and art classes in Berlin. The atelier is fully equipped for both personal projects and teaching, featuring tools for traditional techniques alongside a carefully curated selection of Kunstbedarf (art supplies).

This dual focus allows me to share my love for sculpting and the unique "Berlin art school vibes" with others eager to learn. My goal was to create a space that mirrors Berlin itself—a place where tradition and innovation coexist, where creativity thrives, and where artists can find inspiration around every corner.
